Chilika is a vast lagoon where the sea meets freshwater streams, creating a rich habitat for fish, birds and the rare Irrawaddy dolphin. Boat trips from Satapada head towards the sea mouth and dolphin areas, while Barkul and Rambha give access to Kalijai island and Nalabana Bird Sanctuary. How to reach Chilika Lake from Rourkela
From Rourkela, travel to Bhubaneswar or Puri by train, then continue by road. Satapada, on the Puri side of the lake, is the usual starting point for dolphin boat rides, while Barkul and Rambha lie on the highway towards Berhampur.
